Keeping "Social" Teachers Safe

Social Media Tools, like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram have become increasingly prevalent in the lives of most everyone!  And while these tools are a great way to stay connected and share your ideas and thoughts with the world, Teachers need to know how to draw the line.

  1. I love the chart. Turn off the Location service is an important one. I started using Twitter about 5 years ago. One day, a friend (@dougpete) sent me a tweet with my location....He knew exactly where I was. I was a little freaked out by this, not realizing that my brand new iphone had a location service and that it was "On".
One thing I would add here: Don't ever post anything that you feel should be "private" as privacy is a fallacy...anything can be copied and pasted. I would also make note that the world "friend" is different on the internet then in real life. Further, I would always have an open (not closed/secured/private) twitter or instagram account. If you make it private, you are assuming privacy.

  2. Very great idea to outline what you will and will not partake in. You need personal time and space and by setting parameters this will happen. At the onset, I am certain it will be very overwhelming and getting frustrated is no solution ....be prepared and stick to those parameters!
